How to differentiate products that are Made in CHINA?

October 17, 2008

More countries in Asia and Europe banned imports of Chinese milk products because of this alarming melamine content on milk and even other products made in China. Fyi, Melamine is a white powder used in plastic-making. Its most common form, melamine resin, a mix of melamine and formaldehyde, is used in manufacture of formica, floor tiles, whiteboards and kitchenware. And why add this melamine to milk powder? Because melamine is rich in nitrogen, and relatively cheap. Adding it to sub-standard or watered-down milk makes the milk’s protein level appear higher. Standard quality tests estimate protein levels by measuring nitrogen content.

So far four infants have died in China, and about 13,000 more have been hospitalised after drinking the contaminated milk. Four Hong Kong children have also become sick after consuming toxic Chinese milk powder and more than 80 percent of the sick are under two years old. Young babies that depend solely on milk are most vulnerable.
Little scientific information exists about the compound’s effects on humans. The melamine could crystallise in small kidney tubes and block connecting ducts, resulting in kidney damage or even renal failure.

And here in the Philippines, people are now more alert when buying milk and other products to assure it’s not made from china to stay them and their relatives safe and secured from this melamine content.

But one very helpful way I received from email on how we can determine where the products was made from. Let me share you how…  the first 3 digits of the barcode is the country code wherein the product was made.

Sample all barcodes that start with 690.691.692   until 695 are all MADE IN CHINA. 471 is Made in Taiwan.

This is our human right to know, but just wondering why the government and related department never educate the public.

Nowadays,  Chinese businessmen know that consumers do not prefer products ‘made in china’, so they don’t show from which country it is made.

However, you may now refer to the barcode, remember if the first 3 digits is 690-695 then it is Made in China .

00 ~ 13 USA & CANADA
30 ~ 37 FRANCE
40 ~ 44 GERMANY
49 ~ JAPAN
50 ~ UK
57 ~ Denmark
64 ~ Finland
76 ~ Switzerland and Lienchtenstein
628 ~ Saudi-Arabien
629 ~ United Arab Emirates
740 ~ 745 - Central America

All 480 codes are made in the Philippines. I just bought Absolute distilled water when I had my lunch and try to check the barcode if the info is real ….Right it’s 480. :)

Please inform your family and friends for them to be aware. ;)

Karen, You might also like to know that Nestle is the only infant formula maker that doesn’t conform to the World Health Organization “suggestions” for distribution in the third world countries. Therefore, they are the major cause of infant mortality in the third world. New mothers think the product will give them a healthy baby but then they water it down with unhealthy water and babies die. I and many others who know this try not to use Nestle products.
